Porque NO boicotear los Juegos Olimpicos de Beijing:
- El boicot conseguirá lo contrario que se busca. Boicotear ahora mismo los JJOO no hará que China se vuelva más "buena", sino que la haría cerrarse en sí misma, al considerarse insultada por la comunidad internacional. Volvería a pensar que conspiran contra ella, y podría repetir el aislamiento político que tuvo durante décadas, al ver enemigos en todas partes. Es mejor que China no se cierre, sino que se vaya abriendo, porque es en los países abiertos donde pueden entrar las ideas democratizadoras, no en los cerrados.
- El boicot contamina al deporte con la política. A China se le dieron los Juegos no por ser un dechado de virtudes, sino por ser una potencia deportiva. Si se concedieran los Juegos sólo a países con una hoja de derechos humanos intachable, tendríamos que anular la mayoría. ¿Quién decide qué países lo merecen y cuáles no? ¿Europa la que esquilmó el mundo? ¿EEUU la que genera gran parte de los conflictos actuales?
- El boicot es inútil. Ojalá que un día Taiwán y Tíbet puedan decidir sus propios destinos. Ojalá que un día Hu Jia y otros disidentes sean liberados. Ojalá que un día llegue la democracia a China, la libertad de expresión, y el fin de la censura en Internet. ¿Se va a conseguir eso con el boicot olímpico? No, sólo se enfurecerá a China. El boicot es sólo una rabieta que no soluciona nada.

Reasons NOT to boycott the Beijing Olympic Games:
- Boycotting the games will only provoke the opposite of what it tries to attain. It won't turn China into a "better" country, but will cause further isolation. China will feel insulted by the international community. She would dwell on the idea that the world is conspiring against her, and could repeat the political isolation she went through during decades. It is better to allow China to gradually open, because it is into open countries that democratizing ideals can enter.
- Boycotting the Olympic Games politicizes sports. China was given the Olympic Games not for being a virtuous country, but for being a sporting power. If only virtuous countries were given Olympic Games, most of the countries in the planet wouldn't be able to host them. And who would decide which countries are deserving of hosting Olympic games or not? Europe, the continent which once impoverished the world? USA, architect of many of the conflicts in the modern world?
- Boycotting is useless. We wish Tibet and Taiwan could some day decide their own destinies. We hope for the release of Hu Jia and other dissidents. We want democracy to come to China one day, as well as freedom of speech. We don't want Internet censorship. Will boycotting the games attain any of these goals? NO. It will only cause further fury.

Seamos serios, con la avalancha de extranjeros que quedrán utilizar servicios allí censurados, y teniendo en cuenta que no quieren dar una mala imágen, tendrán que permitir el acceso. Si eso no ocurre, mucha gente no va a querer volver. Si se boicotean la Olimpiadas, se estaria en contra de la opinión del COI de elegir a China. También hay que ver que quién va a ser sede de los juegos olimpicos no se elige de un dia para otro, y supongo que si fué elegida en su momento es porque se tendrian sus motivos.
